Varicose veins and spider veins can be unsightly in appearance and can cause discomfort. The visual appearance of blue, purple or red weblike twisted blood vessels can make people self-conscious about wearing skirts and shorts. This doesn’t have to be the case, with advancements in laser technology the treatment of leg veins can be done with little down time reducing the visibility of varicosities

What can contribute to leg veins?

  • Age

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Weight

  • Pregnancy

  • Prolonged standing

  • Prolonged sitting

  • Sun exposure

  • Trauma or injury

  • Smoking

  • Blood clots

TREATMENT OF LEG VEINS

Over the last decade lasers have become an increasingly important option in the treatment of leg veins. This is due to the development of longer wavelength lasers. One such laser is the Nd:YAG 1064 laser.

A Candela GentleMax® Long Pulsed 1064-nm laser is available for treatment of leg veins. This is more effective in treating leg vessels which are deeper and with a larger diameter than other lasers available today. This allows for treatment of vessels up to 2-3mm in diameter.

Treatment with a Long-Pulsed Nd:YAG laser can be uncomfortable but with the GentleMax® Laser a cryogen (cold) spray is incorporated into the device to increase patient comfort.
