5 Skin Changes of Menopause

Did you did you know that menopause can contribute to a number of skin changes?

These include:

  1. Skin Laxity

  2. Dryness

  3. Acne and Rosacea

  4. Flushing and Sensitivity

  5. Pigmentation and Uneven Skin Tone

Here's what you need to know:

Skin Laxity and Aging

During menopause there is a natural decline in the production of collagen and elastin causing a loss of firmness and elasticity. You may notice that your skin starts to sag or droop or feel thinner than it used to be. leading to skin laxity and thin skin. Skin laxity can often be noticeable in the jawline and neck area.

Dryness and Lack of Moisture

During menopause skin's ability to produce oil declines leading to an increase in skin dryness.

Acne and Rosacea

Hormonal fluctuations with an iimbalance between oestrogen and androgens around menopause can bring on acne and rosacea.

Flushing and sensitivity

This is very common with up to 75% of menopausal women suffering from hot flushes. This leads to sudden redness and warmth in the face and neck area and so overtime this can lead to permanent redness and broken blood vessels.

Pigmentation and uneven skin tone

Menopause can disrupt the balance of melanin production, leading to the development of liver spots and an increase in pigmentation.

As you can see menopause has a profound effect on the skin!
